Upcoming Events

Spring break will begin on March 27th and end on April 4th.  Students first day back to school is Monday, April 5th.  Following spring break, a number of school events are planned, including:

  • Wednesday, April 14 - Spring Pictures
  • Wednesday, April 14 - Spring Concert (2nd/3rd grades)
  • Friday, April 16 - Spring Dance (Grades K-5)
  • Wednesday, March 21st - Celebrate Literacy with a Mackensen Family Writing Night
  • Thursday, May 13th - 5th grade banquet
  • Wednesday, June 2nd - Field Day

Blood Drive

Mackensen Elementary School will be hosting the 1st annual blood drive.  Parents and community members are invited to participate in this life saving event on Wednesday, March 24th from 3:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. in the gymnasium.

The Bay County Health department will also be available to administer the H1N1 flu shot on Wednesday, March 24th from 3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. in the gymnasium.

Family Fun Fair - Friday, March 19th
Mackensen Elementary School is proud to offer the annual family fun fair on Friday, March 19th from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.  Tickets will be pre-sold during student lunch hours for 5 tickets for $1.  Tickets will be sold during the fun fair for 4 tickets for $1.  A special thank you to Meijer stores on Wilder Rd. for donating 2 bicycles (1 boy and 1 girl).  The bicycles will be raffled off during the fun fair.  We look forward to a great turnout and many smiling faces.
March is Reading Month
March is Reading Month.  Throughout the month, Mackensen will be working on a variety of reading activities.  To kick off the celebration, Buck Wilder will be visiting our school on Tuesday, March 2nd with an assembly at 10:00.  Staff and students are excited about this opportunity to listen to the author speak to us about reading and writing.  
Mackensen students raise over $500 for the Haiti Disaster Fund

THANK YOU!!!  Our students raised over $500.00 in our student penny drive for the people of Haiti.  The money has been sent to the American Red Cross.  I so very much appreciate the generosity of our students, parents, and community.  It is an awesome feeling to know who much our community cares.

Help Haiti

Help Haiti -- A  penny drive initiated by one of our students to help the people of Haiti.  Parents and students are asked to donate any loose change to this worthy cause.  Donations can be brought to the school until Friday, January 29th and will be sent to the American Red Cross for aide to the Haiti relief effort.  Thank you for supporting those individuals are are experiencing a very difficult disaster situation.

Family Math Night
Mackensen Elementary School is proud to offer our students, parents, and families a FAMILY MATH NIGHT on Tuesday, January 19th starting at 6:30 p.m.  Parents and students will have opportunities to play in math games and activities.  The activities will focus on specific math skills at different age levels.  Special thanks goes to Saginaw Valley State University for providing and sponsoring this exciting event.
Holiday music programs - revised schedule

Good Morning and Happy snow day to everyone--

Due to the weather conditions and cancellation of school, tonight's kindergarten holiday music program has been rescheduled. The kindergarten program will be tomorrow, Thursday, December 10th from 5:00 - 6:00 p.m. at Mackensen Elementary School. In addition, the 4th/5th grade music program will be Thursday, December 10th from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. at Mackensen

Holiday Music Programs

Two holiday music programs will be presented to our parents and friends of Mackensen.  The kindergarten holiday music program will be on Wednesday, December 9th at 6:00 p.m. at the school.  The 4th/5th grade program will be held on Thursday, December 10th at 6:00 p.m at the school.  Come join us and watch our talented young musicians give us an unforgettable performance.

Ident-A-Kid
The Ident-A-Kid program will be visiting Mackensen on Friday, December 4th.  The Ident-A-Kid is a student security program that provides parents with a child ID card.  The ID card includes the child's name, physical characteristics, and finger print.  This PTO sponsored program provides parents with a safety mechanism in the event of an unfortunate situation.
Celebration Extravaganza
A huge thank you to all our parents and Mackensen Elementary School supporters.  The fall fundraiser is complete and WE ACHIEVED OUR GOAL.  All students are eligible to participate in the Celebration Extravaganza on Thursday, December 3rd.
Meeting Reminder

The next regular PTO meeting is scheduled for Thursday, November 12th at 6:30 p.m. in the media center.  We look forward to seeing you there to share your ideas.

Fundraiser Delivery Date

Thank you to all parents and families for supporting our Fall fundraiser.  With your help, we accomplished our goal.  All students will be able to attend the Celebration Event scheduled for Thursday, December 3rd.

Fundraiser purchases are available for pickup on Wednesday, November 4th from 2:00 - 6:00 p.m. in the gymnasium.  Please make arrangements to have your items picked up during this time.  We will not be able to store purchases overnight.

Community Open House

Thanks to our supportive community, the renovations at Mackensen are complete.  To show our appreciation, the district is hosting a community open house on Sunday, October 18th from 2:00 p.m. from 4:00 p.m.  The building will be open for any parent or community member to see.  Starting at 3:00 p.m., we will offer a special ceremony including the opening of a time capsule from the 1950's and a short video presentation.  Mark you calendars and bring a friend.  We look forward to a great turnout.

Beautification Day - October 3rd
In partnership with the Bay Area Chamber of Commerce and working with our business partners from Begick's Nursery, Home Depot, and Do-All, Inc., we are proud to offer our community a beautification day scheduled on Saturday, October 3rd from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.  During this time frame, volunteers from the community and our business partners will transform the landscaping in the front of the school into something our students, staff and community will be proud of. We are seeking donations. Please contact the school for details.
Welcome Back 2009-2010
Welcome back students and parents to the 2009-2010 school year.  Letters will be mailed to your home on August 28th.  The letters will contain important information including teacher assignments, classroom supply lists, and important dates.
