Dear Parents,
Welcome to the 2008-2009 school year!! My name is John Folsom and I am honored to be the new principal at Mackensen Elementary School.
To begin, I have heard so many wonderful things about Mackensen Elementary School and the students, staff, and parents. Mackensen Elementary School is a wonderful neighborhood school with an excellent tradition of student achievement and parent support. As principal, my goal is to provide a healthy, safe, and secure learning environment so your child(ren) will have a successful educational experience. I believe every student at Mackensen Elementary School has the ability to expand their learning and should be provided opportunities to do so.
Mackensen Elementary School has a strong tradition of parent volunteers and a parent advisory group. I look forward to working with these individuals in their effort to support students and staff.
On the personal side, I graduated from Central Michigan University with a teaching certification in mathematics and industrial arts. In 2002, I earned a Master’s degree in Athletic Administration and have recently finished my Educational Specialist degree in Curriculum from Saginaw Valley State University. I enjoy many types of sports including baseball, basketball, water and downhill skiing. Other hobbies include watching movies and landscaping.
My wife and I have been married 8 years and have two sons – Connor (age 6) and Owen (age 4). We also have 2 dogs, 2 cats, and several fish. We have lived in Bay City for 7 years. In our spare time, we love spending time with family, canoeing, and taking our kids to the children’s zoo and children’s museum in Saginaw. We also enjoy visiting Lake Michigan as often as possible.
